Organ, Eye, and Tissue Donation

Governor's Gift of Life Ceremony

Since April 2014, the Governor's Office of Community Service and their partners, LifeCenter Northwest, recognize Montanans who gave the ultimate gift of organ donation. Families are invited to this annual event where they receive a certificate signed by the Governor, acknowledging the life-saving gifts of their loved ones.

Organ donation is a rare opportunity, and the generosity of those who choose to donate impacts everyone involved from family members and medical professionals to our friends and neighbors. Donors and their families made a life-altering decision to turn a tragedy into healing, and we are continuously thankful for their strength and courage to leave a powerful legacy of hope.

Trees of Life

For nearly two decades, Montana's governors have cultivated the organ, eye, and tissue donor registry, and each April during Donate Life Month, they honor the families of those who have lost loved ones with heartfelt ceremonies. With one of the highest rates of registered organ donors in the United States, Montana exemplifies the spirit of selflessness. Montanans have long embraced the opportunity to serve others in both life and death. By giving the lifesaving gift of organ donation, we affirm our belief that life is precious and that serving our neighbors is a noble calling.

In Helena, there are two metal-sculpted trees, each leaf engraved with the name of a lost loved one. It is time to create a lasting memorial for all of Montana’s organ donors, both the living and those who have passed away.
