VISTA Summer Associates
Thirty AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associates will serve Montana this summer. During 10 weeks of service, Summer Associates will help with summer feeding programs, assist with summer educational activities, build community-school partnerships, or support veterans and military families.
The AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associates is a great opportunity for Montana college students to participate in service over the summer, earn a living allowance, get great experience and receive an education award.
AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associates in Montana will serve from June 3, 2013 to August 11, 2013.

Overview of the VISTA Summer Associate Program
The mission of AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) has stayed strong since mandated by Congress in 1964, “AmeriCorps VISTA builds permanent infrastructure in non-profit organizations to help them more effectively bring individuals and communities out of poverty.” For almost 50 years members have actively served in low-income areas by mobilizing people, businesses and organizations with the goal of creating sustainable healthy communities. The VISTA Summer Associate program is a short-term service opportunity that enhances an existing VISTA project by providing individuals that will participate for 8 to 10 weeks, alongside year-round VISTAs, in an intensive level of summer service. During service, Summer Associates are available to the community on a full-time basis which is described by Congress as “24 hours a day, 7 days a week.” This means that a Summer Associate should be available as deemed necessary by the sponsoring agency, for the project, beyond standard working hours.
Summer Associates’ contributions will have an actual and credible impact on those being served.
Summer Associates receive:
- A $1,174.60 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award or an end of service cash stipend
- On-site orientation and training
- A living allowance to cover necessities during service
- AmeriCorps eCommunity and Alumni Network participation
