Moving Wall- Vietnam Veterans Memorial

Volunteer Opportunities with the “Moving Wall”
August 16-19

The “Moving Wall”, a one-half scale exact replica of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C., will be on exhibit in Missoula from August 16 through August 19, 2012. This will be the “Moving Wall’s” only visit to Montana this year. The memorial’s four day visit is being sponsored and presented by Missoula’s American Legion Forgotten Warriors Post #101.

The site of the exhibit will be at “Memorial Park” on the UM campus, north of Adams Center and south of Jacob’s Island, near the Van Buren Street walking bridge. The exhibit will be open for visitation by the public, free of charge, 24 hours a day during the entire four day showing. Visitors will be able to make “rubbings” of the names of loved ones, comrades, or acquaintances that died in the Vietnam War. An information booth will be available to aid in the locating of the names of the wall.

Most people who come to The Moving Wall will be looking for one or a few very special names. Some can feel emotionally overwhelmed with the list of names and may be reluctant to speak for fear of breaking down or blurred vision from the tears in their eyes. It can be an unexpected surprise to discover that the names on the Wall are not in alphabetical order. It can cause some individuals to give up, leaving disappointed. However, YOU can make a difference by helping to locate the names following the guide sheet provided to volunteers.
