Montanans Honored for Outstanding Volunteer Service

Lt. Governor John Walsh to Present Awards

HELENA, MT- The Governor’s Office of Community Service and the Montana Commission on Community Service announced today the 2013 recipients of the ServeMontana and ReadyMontana Awards. Theses annual awards are presented to outstanding community volunteers and organizations for their service to Montana.

The awards will be presented at the ServeMontana Symposium luncheon ceremony on Thursday, February 28 at the Great Northern Hotel ballroom in Helena at 11:30am.

“I look forward to recognizing these dedicated Montanans,” said Lt. Governor John Walsh. “It’s the passion and commitment of volunteers that make our state great.”

Lt. Governor John Walsh will first present three ReadyMontana Awards to outstanding community volunteers and organizations in the areas of disaster services, emergency preparedness and emergency response. Following will be the presentation of eight ServeMontana Awards to outstanding community volunteers and organizations in the social impact areas of education, healthy futures, environmental stewardship, economic opportunity and veterans & military families. Thursday’s awards ceremony luncheon will be part of the 2013 ServeMontana Symposium, a two-day conference focused on providing training and resources for national service programs, nonprofits, and organizations who use and support volunteers.

2013 ReadyMontana Award Recipients (in alphabetical order by location):

  • Ashland, MT: Pat Dennis- Fire Chief of the St. Labre Volunteer Fire Department
  • Billings, MT: Yellowstone County Disaster Action Team, American Red Cross of Montana- volunteer disaster response group
  • Glasgow, MT: Robert Hanson- Fire Chief of the Long Run Volunteer Fire Department

2013 ServeMontana Award Recipients (in alphabetical order by location):

  • Billings, MT: Laura Kennedy-volunteer committed to youth and charities
  • Bozeman, MT: Scott Carpenter- mentor with Thrive’s Child Advancement Project
  • Butte, MT: Christopher Doyle- AmeriCorps Alumni and volunteer with the Clark Fork Watershed Education Program
  • Corvallis, MT: Wendi Fawns- community educator and director of Community Cooking Connections
  • Lewistown, MT: Recycle Our Waste Lewistown- volunteer group hosting monthly plastic recycling drives
  • Libby, MT: Roland Childs- lifelong volunteer with the VFW Post 1548
  • Miles City, MT: Miles City Soup Kitchen- volunteer-run soup kitchen
  • Missoula, MT: Danielle Gornick- youth founder of the “Sleep Tight Missoula” project
