Celebrating GYSD, Earth Day, and Arbor Day!

April brings a variety of special days focused on the environment and service, and Montana AmeriCorps programs are celebrating across the state. Events related to Earth Day (April 22), National Volunteer Week (April 21-27), Global Youth Service Day-GYSD (April 26-28) and Arbor Day (April 26) have been planned by Montana Conservation Corps, Big Sky Watershed Corps, Montana State Parks AmeriCorps, Energy Corps, and Food Corps AmeriCorps members. Billings

Big Sky Watershed Corps member Becca Mathias and the Audubon Conservation and Education Center are hosting an Earth Day Yellowstone River Volunteer Cleanup on April 20 at the Audubon Center in Billings. Contact Becca at 406-294-5099 to learn more.

Montana Conservation Corps Youth Crew Leaders are partnering with Riverstone Health and the United Way of Yellowstone County for two GYSD projects at Lake Elmo Park and Two Moon Park in Billings on April 27. Contact Tauzha Grantham at 406-651-1311 to learn more.

Montana State Parks AmeriCorps member Sarah Pepasky is working with the United Way to bring youth to the Pictograph Cave State Park outside of Billings for a GYSD project of invasive species removal and trail restoration on April 27. Montana Conservation Corps members will be planting trees at Rose Park in Billings on May 17 with fourth grade students and the City of Billings Parks and Recreation Department to celebrate Arbor Day. Contact Tauzha Grantham at 406-651-1311 to learn more.

Bozeman

Montana Conservation Corps members will be helping with the Middle Creek Montessori Playground expansion on April 15 & 16 by constructing a new garden and a living willow house with fourth through six grade students in Bozeman. Contact Chris Nesset at 406-586-0151 to learn more.

Butte

Energy Corps staff and AmeriCorps VISTA member Zoe will be celebrating Earth Day with the student participants of the Little Diggers Days at Montana Tech in Butte on April 23 from 8:30am-3pm. Ennis

Hamilton

Big Sky Watershed Corps member Kalena Gravina and the Bitter Root Water Forum are holding an Earth Day stream restoration event on April 20 from 10am-2:30pm off French Basin Road outside of Hamilton. Call 406-375-2272 for directions.

Helena

Montana Conservation Corps members are celebrating GYSD on April 19 in Helena. From noon to 3:30pm they will be with PAL students doing trail work on Mount Helena. Then from 4pm to 7pm they will be partnering with Prickly Pear Land Trust for trail work at Davis Gulch with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the YMCA, and foreign exchange students.
